Things to do & see around Bathurst

Well worth a visit to the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum. A major star of the collection is a 10 metre long Tyrannosaurus Rex - the only one in the country. There are several dinosaur eggs, a 40 million-year old lizard caught in amber and many rare minerals.

Mount Panorama is home to the world famous Bathurst 1000 race. If there is no event happening when you visit you can take a drive around the track (it's a public road so 60km/h only). A must for any motor racing enthusiast.

Bathurst and most of the surrounding villages were formed and populated during the first gold rush in the 1850's. Even today it is possible to find gold in many of the rivers and creeks around Bathurst. The Turon river is a 30 minute drive, why not borrow our gold pans try your luck at striking it rich!

The markets are held on the fourth Saturday of each month from January to November and on the third Saturday of December. Gates are open to the public from 8 am to 12 noon. The markets are situated at the historic Bathurst Showground, Wander through the pavilions and sample or buy fresh regional produce. The market’s aim is to encourage stalls with goods that are grown and / or produced within the Bathurst and Central West Regions.
